A peep at man’s future without crude oil- Can we survive?

globeIt’s not a matter of if but when. Crude oil usage is not sustainable and at the rate we use it, it won’t last for much longer. But your life depends on it more than you think. Take a look at the things we use daily that are made from crude oil by-products and see what life without crude oil will be like for humans in a future not too far.

Household: oil for heating homes, butane, plastic chairs, nylon bags, plastic wrap, rubber bands, computers, canopies, plastic cups, plastic cutleries (forks, spoons, knife), upholstery, thermos bottles, food flasks, food warmers, ice chests, dishwashing liquid, electric blankets, toothpaste, toilet seats, refrigerator seals, carpets, mops, paint brushes, linoleum, TV cabinets, candles, plywood, trash bags, roofing, shower curtains, floor wax.

Fashion: hair curlers, perfumes, non-cotton shirts, underwear and trousers, pantyhose, dresses, nail polish, combs, brushes, shoe polish, dressing shoes, hair coloring, lipstick, hair dryer, bras, sweaters, deodorants, purses, bags.

Agriculture: fertilizers – without fertilizers in today’s world we are in deep trouble!

Electronics: computers, gum, glue, adhesive tapes, transparent tapes, telephone, stereos, cameras.

Entertainments: movie films, loudspeakers, guitar strings, crayons, CD, DVD.

Office: rubber bands, paper, telephones, air conditioners, computer ribbons, rubber boots, paint brushes, all inks (used in offices, schools, homes), wax paper, pens, house paint.

Food: chewing gum.

Way Forward?

Make a conscious effort to use less crude. Use less of all the items I listed above so we can buy more time for the human race.

There is a need to put more pressure on the government to end the politics and move away in a controlled manner from dependence on crude oil now that we have the time.

To fail to plan is to plan to fail.
