The Difference Between Teams and Teaming

Teaming is a process that is birthed when teams are encouraged to take the initiative, fail and learn from the mistakes made to achieve better performance. Teaming would necessarily lead to failure even when on the way to extraordinary successes.

Adopting a teaming mindset ultimately enriches decision-making abilities, promotes a robust organizational culture, encourages innovation at all levels of the organization, promotes employee participation in key organizational activities, and increases employee motivational levels. All these contributes to high organizational performance and corporate profitability.

However, in order to facilitate effective teaming, leaders need to manage the technical issues of scoping out the challenge, lightly structuring the boundaries, and sorting tasks for execution.

Organizational leaders, therefore, will be wise to build psychological safety by developing a culture of asking thoughtful questions, acknowledging ignorance as well as conveying awareness of their own fallibility.

This culture creates an environment where all can learn and gather information that guides subsequent steps. It will also help make the team’s objectives clearer which in turn increases the level of participation in the team

In essence, the role of leadership is to create an enabling environment for team effectiveness
